6 years old, 40 lbs.
Retriever/lab mix
Sociable, snuggly senior

Rye is a sweet, affectionate lady who came to Portland after being thrown over the fence of a shelter in Puerto Rico as a 5 month old puppy back in 2012. Living her life in the shelter where she proved to have the most charming personality and resilient attitude, we met her when we traveled to PR to help rebuild the shelter Rye lived in — and that’s when we met her, big eyes, wagging tail and all. Now in a foster home, she enjoys walks but needs a little guidance to keep her from weaving (since the leash is a relatively new thing). She adores humans, loves to snuggle and would most enjoy a home where someone is around more often than not. While she seems to enjoy being the only dog of the house, she shows some interest in other dogs she has met on her walks so far and did great with other dogs at the shelter, as well as cats. As an older lady, though, she would prefer other adult dogs who know how to respect her personal space. Rye is crate trained and does well alone during the day. She is learning some basic commands and figuring out her schedule of feeding and potty time, and will make someone a wonderful companion!
